SSBC Brake Upgrade

SSBC Disc Brakes Replace Drums Logbook: 4/4/2012 Mileage: 10,051 Just left Truck Supply & Outfitters where David "Chops" Adair spent the day upgrading Bedrock's brakes. We went from drums in the rear to  14"  SSBC performance discs and upgraded the stock front disc/rotors to SSBC performance versions with triple-piston calipers.. Stopping power is noticeably better; firmer brake pedal and a lot more brake grip. The joke is my 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 is now setup like the old GM pickups that had ...

Toyos on Bedrock

Bedrock on Toyo A/Ts   Logbook: 3/30/2012 Mileage: 10,025 Postel's Tire here in Tuscaloosa just pulled off the LT285/70R17 Cooper Discoverer S/Ts and put on a set of Toyo Open Country A/Ts in the GMC factory size -- LT265/70R17. Going back to the narrower, 31-inch OEM tire size makes my 2011 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 1500 4x4 look a little puny. (Wish GM would open up the front of the front wheel wells to accommodate 33s.) But I hope fuel economy will get a positive hit ...

Bedrock on Nittos

Logbook: Feb. 28, 2012 Bedrock on Nittos Mileage: 9,790 Just swapped out tires and wheels. Put on a set of Nitto Trail Grappler M/Ts mounted on Mickey Tompson Sidebiters. Love the look. The bummer is LT265/70R17s fit on stock or "leveled" suspension. However, the LT285s don't. They will require at true 3-inch lift as they rub hard at rear of front fenderwells even with the 2" leveling kit. So, they'll have to come off while i await the suspension lift. Stay tuned....

Logbook: Oct. 14

Logbook: Oct. 14 Mileage: 7,268 Just finished making a run to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Round trip of just under 470 miles. The Sierra cruises nicely around 70. Fuel economy with the current setup averages right at 16mpg. It appears we picked up about 3/1oths mpg with the Access tonneau installed as I normally get about 15.7 on this particular road trip in the same driving conditions. The more aggressive Cooper S/T Maxx tires and Corsa performance exhaust have increased interior noise a lot over ...

Short Tonneau

Logbook: 9/29/2011 Tonneau upgrade Just finished getting the "shorty" tonneau cover installed. Looks nice and functions well to keep things in the bed from flying out--and should improve fuel economy. Truck Supply & Outfitters installed the Access Tonneua cover from Agri-Cover. They customized it to work with the tool box by shortening the cover by about a foot and restitching the cut-off end so it still looks factory. The custom tonneau install draws some attention. Look for a how-to on this custom  install on the ...

Bedrock Logbook Aug. 18

Project Bedrock Logbook August 18 Ah the sound of power. Truck Supply & Outfitters just installed Corsa Exhausts new dB Performance Commercial Exhaust under Bedrock. It sounds like a Corvette. Pretty sweet. Stainless 5.3L system with dual tips looks professional grade all the way, too. Not sure of power gain, but would expect 10-15hp. So, coupled with the Edge CTS programmer, I should have 20-25hp in the towing mode. From previous experience I knew what it would sound like. From my test run down the interstate ...

Bedrock Logbook July 28

Project Bedrock Logbook July 28, 2011 Just had a couple guys in a GMC Dually come up to me at the gas station. Both work for a local contractor doing tornado clean-up/debris removal. They asked all kinds of questions about Bedrock.Said they followed me for about 5 miles hoping I'd pull over somewhere. They loved the Backbone headache rack. Wanted to knwo about the Superwinch Talon as well. They saw a couple issues of the magazine "borrowed" from their boss's truck. Neither of ...
