It's the end of the magazine road for Project Super Crew; the sweepstakes drawing is done (no word on winner yet) and the only thing left to do on it is a full detail inside and out.

Had to stop and take a picture of where the odometer clicked over 10,000 miles: Barber Motorsports Park entrance just outside Birmingham, Alabama.
Came here to help editor of our sister magazine, Total Landscape Care, shoot their cover.
Super Crew odo tripped 10,001 as I rolled into the Barber complex. A milestone of sorts.
Truck is a hit, too. Took a couple laps around the road course--got all of 35mph--to check out the best spot to shoot a ...
Going Old School: CB Radio
Logbook: 9,850 miles
Now I feel like a real construction worker. The soft glow from a CB radio is lighting my can of Diet Dew.
Gotta luv it.
Now I can drive the Super Crew using both the oldest and newest in electronic technology to keep me advised of wrecks, speed traps, and law enforcement using the Cobra 25 CB and iCobra radar detector.
Pretty slick.
The downside might be every trucker that sees the antenna jutting up above this ...
Nothing like taking a project truck you've been working on for months and putting it to the test in some real-world conditions.
Just hooked up with a couple local guys who know the local Alabama pipeline and powerline roads like the back of their hands. They offered to take me out on a "shakedown" run with the Super Crew...

It's been a couple weeks since I drove the truck.
I spend a lot of time in a GMC Sierra 1500, so stepping up (literally) into the Super Crew is always a big change in driver perspective.
Just spent $10 at the local spray-n-wash. Takes a wad of quarters to wash this baby!
I must say the Ford is fun to drive and I'd love to have it as my personal work truck.
Peel off the ProPickup vinyl wrap and you ...

Brought the Super Crew into Town & Country Ford to get its regular service: oil/filter change, tires rotated, DEF topped off and general inspection.
All's well. Cost: $148. Next scheduled service is at 14,000.
Valvoline is our oil/lubricants sponsor. Only the best for the big Ford.
Rosen radio/navigation system is nice to have. Jimmy Hardy said it worked wonderful on his 3,600-mile round trip to Las Vegas and back.
Navi unit is nice the way it pops up detail turns and ...

Just topped off the tank and added 3 gallons of Valvoline DEF. Didn't know what DEF was when the warning came on the dash information display and said there was 278 miles remaining.
Kind of unsettling the first time that happens. Now I know what the little blue cap is next to the diesel fill.
Fuel economy is up a little - 12.7mpg. Tail wind helps.
Hit snow, fog, sleet, rain and a dust storm so far on the drive. Never had ...

Getting ready to hit the road for home. Bruce & Stephen topped the fuel tank and put an apple in the ARB freezer/fridge for me. Nice guys.
Weather forecast calls for snow in the passes. Guess I might get to try out four-wheel-drive. Will lock the hubs once I see the first flakes fall.
Adjusted the driving lights and fog lights just in case. But HID headlights are all I needed on the trip out.
Never even used the high-beams because the ...
Project Super Crew is here at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas looking just a bit out of place in the bright lights and carpeted floors. Show goers are lining up to fill out entry forms hoping to win this truck in the Project Super Crew Sweepstakes.

Man what a truck. Rides nice, seats are comfortable. Plenty of power.
Gets the looks, too.
Left Tuscaloosa in a light rain but that cleared out about the time I hit I-40. Been smooth sailing ever since. Truck cruises right along at 75. Fun to drive.
Bruce not going to like it going that fast because he says it hurts fuel economy. But he's not the one making the 1,700 mile drive. :)
Last fill-up showed it's averaging 12.6mpg. -- Jimmy Hardy, driver
EBC brakes upgrade the Super Crew's stopping power in a big way

Just stepped outside and replaced the old receiver lock with one of the new BOLT locks coded for our Super Crew's ignition key.
I put the ignition key into the BOLT lock, turned the key 3/4-turn and heard a click. That was all it took to code the 5/8" receiver lock to the key.
BOLT has a number of different locks that can all be coded the same way--so we don't have to have a keychain loaded with keys ...
Project Super Crew on display at the Charlotte Diesel Super Show
ProPickup’s Project Super Crew, our 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4×4, was on display at the Charlotte Diesel Super Show last weekend. Excellent weather, music by Charlie Daniels, Custom Rig's Pride and Polish truck show and diesel drags. Attendees lined up to register to win the Super Crew pickup.

HID upgrade
The guys at Truck Supply & Outfitters just upgraded our Super Crew's headlights to HID using a kit from Oracle Lighting Technology.
The Oracle HID kit replaces the stock low-beam bulb with an HID version. This should greatly improve the low-beam performance during our winter driving.
We'll know how the Oracle HIDs work as we drive the truck to Louisville for the ICUEE Show and then on to the Charlotte Diesel Super Show this week and next.
I'm sure a ...

Just left Truck Supply & Outfitters.
The Hellwig sway-bars they just installed made a huge difference in this truck's ride and handling.
I was a bit skeptical that adding anti-sway bars was a good idea as they could affect the suspension travel of our lifted F-250 Super Duty. No worries.
It's all too clear Hellwig has designed these front/rear sway bars specifically for lifted, heavy-duty 4x4 pickups.
I don't feel any body roll in hard cornering--and the truck still takes dips ...

Baby's first oil change.
Odometer rolled past 4,450 miles just as I pulled in to Town & Country Ford.
DEF refill light says there's only 327 miles to empty. Guess it does coincide with the typical oil/filter change cycle. Nice.
Truck has seen about 2,500 miles in the last three weeks. Still love the ride on the BDS 4-link suspension and Mickey T's.
Ooops! Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned those little additions until our October issue hits the mail in a ...

1193.8 miles.
That's the odometer reading after we made the run to Dallas and back to be in the Great American Trucking Show last week.
Stephen Abernathy drove it down and Justin Wood and I shared wheel time coming home. 14.5mpg running 70-80. Not bad for a truck running a lift, bigger tires and carrying more weight than it was stock.
Got lots of thumbs-up and smiles on the road. Super Duty owners really take notice.

Dallas bound!
Left Tuscaloosa at 7:30 this morning. Been running 75mph most of the way on I-20 toward Dallas and the Great American Trucking Show.
Be the first show the Super Crew is in this year. Been getting a lot of thumbs-up from people I've passed--or are passing me.
Driver's-side toolbox lid keeps popping open. Have to find a fix for that issue. Very annoying
Getting 14.5mpg. Big tires and the lift kit undoubtedly not the best things to ...

Our white Super Duty Crew Cab isn't white anymore.
Richard Trahan, the owner of Advanced Signs & Graphics in New Iberia, Louisiana, started putting on a complete body wrap -- and I have to say, it's some sort of cool.
Can't let too much out of the bag.
Supposed to be a secret until it shows up in Dallas next week at the Great American Trucking Show.
But I can say our art director, David Watson, and the folks ...
